Volkswagen advances EV lineup with new ID. Polo and budget models

Volkswagen is undergoing a significant strategic shift in its vehicle lineup, balancing electric vehicle (EV) expansion with the continued relevance of internal combustion engines. While EV orders in Europe are rising, development executives note that combustion engines will remain vital in the premium and luxury segments and in international markets like the USA.

Key upcoming models include the ID. Polo, an affordable electric compact expected to launch in 2026 with prices starting around 24,995 euros. There is also significant focus on the ID. Every1 (potentially named ID. Up! or ID. Lupo), a budget-friendly city car aimed at the sub-20,000 euro market for 2027. Additionally, Audi is reviving the A2 nameplate as an entry-level electric model.

In the SUV and larger vehicle segments, the Tayron is set to succeed the Tiguan Allspace, utilizing the MQB evo platform shared with Skoda and Audi. The ID. 7 Tourer is also being positioned as a flagship electric estate. To support these launches, Volkswagen is upgrading driver assistance technology under the IQ. DRIVE umbrella and has partnered with Continental for original-equipment tire approvals for the ID. Polo.
