Volkswagen begins low‑cost EV production in Spain with ID. Polo and Cupra Raval

Volkswagen has launched production of two inexpensive electric models at its Martorell plant near Barcelona. The ID. Polo and the Cupra Raval will be built for under €25,000, with the ID. Every1 slated for 2027 at around €20,000. The rollout is part of the group’s “Electric Urban Car” strategy aimed at expanding affordable EVs across Europe. Volkswagen’s CEO Oliver Blume and other senior executives highlighted the importance of a “Made in Europe” approach, noting that the plant benefits from cheaper solar‑powered battery production, lower labour costs and nearly €400 million in Spanish subsidies. The project involves an investment of more than €3 billion and is expected to start deliveries in September, with larger‑battery versions first and smaller‑capacity versions following later. The move is intended to increase competition in the entry‑level EV segment and accelerate Europe’s electrification.
