Volkswagen celebrates 50 years of GTI through racing and exhibitions
Volkswagen is marking the 50th anniversary of the GTI model through various automotive events and racing participations. At the Wheels Mariënwaerdt event in the Netherlands, the brand is hosting an exhibition featuring thirteen GTI models from the Pon Classics collection, spanning from the original 1976 Golf GTI to modern iterations like the Lupo GTI and up! GTI. The event also serves as the Dutch debut for the electric ID. Polo GTI and showcases the Golf GTI Clubsport EDITION 50, the most powerful GTI to date.
In the racing sector, the GTE Racing team is preparing for the 48th edition of the 24 Hours of Zolder in the Belcar Endurance Championship. Driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, the team aims for victory in the Super Sport class. Following three consecutive second-place finishes, the team is currently trailing the championship leader by only seven points and is adjusting its strategy to secure maximum points during the endurance race.
