Volkswagen Golf GTI anniversary editions

In July 2026 Volkswagen announced the Golf GTI Edition 50, a limited‑run hot hatch celebrating the model’s 50th anniversary. The car carries a 2.0‑litre turbocharged four‑cylinder engine producing 325 hp and 420 Nm, accelerates to 100 km/h in about 5.3 seconds and is marketed as the final high‑output, pure‑combustion GTI before the brand’s shift toward electrification. It features a stiffer suspension, 19‑inch wheels, upgraded brakes, a distinctive exhaust note, and special exterior and interior trim. Production is capped and pricing is set around €75‑84 k, reflecting local CO₂ taxes.

A few days later Volkswagen expanded the anniversary theme with two models. The Edition 50 details were reiterated, including a Nürburgring lap of 7:44 with the Performance Pack. Additionally, for the brand’s 75th anniversary in South Africa, Volkswagen Motorsport built a one‑off GTI equipped with a 2.5‑litre five‑cylinder turbo from the Audi RS3, tuned to 1,000 hp, all‑wheel drive and a bespoke Sadev gearbox. The vehicle boasts a carbon‑fiber shell, extensive aerodynamic components and a large rear wing, and it competed in the Zwartkops Top‑of‑the‑Hill hill‑climb. Together, the snapshots track Volkswagen’s celebration of GTI heritage through a high‑performance, limited‑edition lineup spanning the 50th and 75th milestones.
