Volkswagen de México and SITIAVW union extend labor negotiations

Volkswagen de México and the Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers of Volkswagen de México (SITIAVW) have agreed to a fourth extension in their collective bargaining negotiations. Formal dialogue is scheduled to resume on September 21 before the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration in Mexico City.

The new deadline to avoid a strike at the Puebla manufacturing plant is set for October 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM. This extension follows a previous rejection by 73% of the union membership regarding a prior agreement reached between the company and the negotiating commission.

Volkswagen has maintained a wage increase proposal of approximately 10.04% to 10.05% over an 18-month period, stating this represents the maximum viable financial effort given current economic conditions. The SITIAVW has stated it will continue to explore all avenues for a dignified agreement but remains prepared to use legal mechanisms to defend workers' rights if a satisfactory resolution is not reached.
