Volkswagen electric models see rising demand and competitive pricing in Europe
Electric vehicle (EV) sales are showing signs of recovery in Europe, Canada, and the United States. In Europe, EVs accounted for 29% of new car sales in August, a significant increase from 20.2% during the same period in 2025. This growth comes as the market share for gasoline and diesel vehicles declines.
In Germany, Volkswagen has reported more orders for electric vehicles than for internal combustion engine models for the first time. This shift has prompted the manufacturer to slow production of gasoline vehicles to prioritize electric model capacity.
In Portugal, the new Volkswagen ID. Polo is currently priced lower than its gasoline-powered counterpart. Due to a promotional campaign, the electric ID. Polo starts at 23,700 euros, while the conventional Polo begins at 26,347 euros. The entry-level ID. Polo features an 85 kW motor and a 37 kWh LFP battery, offering a range of up to 329 km WLTP.
