Volkswagen expands EV lineup with ID. Polo and ID. 3 Neo

Volkswagen is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the ID. Polo and updates to the ID. 3 Neo. The ID. Polo, a compact electric car starting at approximately 24,995 euros, will be manufactured in Spain and is expected to reach dealers in September. It offers two battery options: a 37-kWh LFP battery with a range of up to 329 km and a 52-kWh NMC battery with a range of up to 455 km.

The ID. 3 Neo is positioned at a higher price point of around 34,000 euros. It features three battery sizes (50, 58, and 79 kWh) with ranges spanning from 417 km to 630 km. Both models utilize the MEB+ platform and incorporate physical buttons and dials to address previous user interface criticisms.

Looking toward the future, industry trends suggest the upcoming ID. Golf, expected around 2030 on the new SSP platform, may transition into a crossover or SUV format. This shift aligns with the growing European market preference for SUVs, which currently account for approximately 60% of the market, as competitors like Opel, Ford, and Renault move toward similar body styles.
