Volkswagen expands ID. Buzz Cargo and delays U.S. minibus return
Volkswagen is expanding its electric commercial vehicle lineup with the introduction of the ID. Buzz Cargo Long Wheelbase (LWB). This new variant features a 250 mm increase in wheelbase, resulting in a 4.4 m³ cargo volume and a loading length of 2,458 mm. The LWB model includes a second sliding door as standard, which is 19 cm wider than the standard version to accommodate Euro pallets. It will be available with either rear-wheel drive (210 kW/286 hp) or 4MOTION all-wheel drive (250 kW/340 hp), both utilizing an 86 kWh battery.
New technological features for the ID. Buzz Cargo include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external devices, and updated software featuring Travel Assist with traffic light recognition and One-Pedal-Driving capabilities.
Separately, Volkswagen has announced a delay for the return of the ID. Buzz electric minibus to the United States market. Originally expected for the 2027 model year, the vehicle is now slated to arrive in the first half of 2027 as a 2028 model year vehicle. The delay follows lower-than-expected sales of the initial launch, which moved approximately 6,140 units in its first full year. The upcoming 2028 model is expected to include updated software, digital key integration, and a transition to NACS-style charging ports.
