Volkswagen faces union pressure over investment pledges and board elections

Volkswagen AG is facing internal pressure regarding its future restructuring and labor agreements. The IG Metall union has formally requested a review meeting to ensure the company adheres to investment commitments made in a December 2024 collective agreement. These commitments include investments in new models, future products, and modern production processes. Union leaders, including Thorsten Gröger, emphasized that employees made significant concessions to stabilize the company and expect the promised job security and site investments to be honored.

Simultaneously, IG Metall delegates in Wolfsburg have finalized the candidate list for the employee representatives on Volkswagen's supervisory board for the 2027 elections. The proposed list, led by works council chairwoman Daniela Cavallo, includes new members such as Ibrahim Aslan and Manfred Wulff. The upcoming election is expected to be more competitive than usual, as the group Zentrum has announced its own list. The selection process has also faced criticism regarding the lack of representation for manufacturing sites in Saxony.
