Volkswagen Golf GTI special editions unveiled for 50th and 75th anniversaries
Volkswagen introduced the Golf GTI Edition 50, a commemorative model marking half a century of the GTI line. The trim delivers 325 hp and 420 Nm, reaches 0‑100 km/h in 5.3 seconds, and tops out at 270 km/h. Test driver Benjamin Leuchter set a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap of 7:44 with the Performance Pack, while the car features exclusive exterior cues such as a roof spoiler, black‑finished mirrors and a specific Dark Moss Green Metallic paint.
For the brand’s 75th anniversary in South Africa, Volkswagen Motorsport built a one‑off Golf GTI producing 1,000 hp. The powerplant is a 2.5‑litre five‑cylinder turbo from the Audi RS3, tuned to 1,000 hp and paired with an all‑wheel‑drive layout and a bespoke Sadev gearbox. The car’s body is a carbon‑fiber shell with extensive aerodynamic additions, including a large rear wing. It competed in the Zwartkops Top‑of‑the‑Hill hill‑climb in Pretoria, showcasing its extreme performance capabilities.
