Volkswagen recalls electric vehicles over battery fire risk

Volkswagen is preparing to recall thousands of electric vehicles due to defective battery cells that pose a potential fire risk. The issue stems from production errors at suppliers affecting a specific manufacturing period between 2023 and 2025.

In the United States, the recall involves approximately 22,524 ID. 4 models. Recalls are already underway in the US and the United Kingdom, with similar measures being prepared for Germany and other markets. While the company has not officially confirmed the full list of affected models, reports indicate that the ID. 3, ID. 4, ID. 7, ID. Buzz, and Cupra Born may be included.

As an immediate safety precaution, Volkswagen recommends that owners of potentially affected vehicles limit their battery charging to a maximum of 80 percent. Some vehicles will be summoned to authorized service centers for battery inspections. Depending on the findings, the issue may be resolved through a software update, though in some cases, battery module replacement may be necessary.
