Volkswagen ID. Cross launches at €36,500, €8,000 above advertised price

Volkswagen has activated the online configurator for its new electric mini‑SUV, the ID. Cross, but only the higher‑priced variants are initially available. The entry‑level ID. Cross Life is listed at around €36,500 (after a €2,500 discount to roughly €34,000), while the ID. Cross Style starts at about €39,000 (with a €3,500 discount). The company’s website promotes an introductory price of roughly €28,000, creating a gap of more than €8,000 between the advertised figure and the live selling price.

Buyers can reduce the purchase cost through a German state subsidy of up to €6,000 and possible dealer discounts, potentially bringing the final price under €30,000. However, the lower‑priced “Trend” version with the smaller battery is not expected to be available until mid‑October 2026, meaning customers must wait several months for the cheaper model.

The pricing strategy has drawn criticism for not delivering the promised entry price at market launch, despite the availability of financial incentives.
