Volkswagen introduces digital car keys via Apple Wallet

Volkswagen is expanding its digital key capabilities by integrating with Apple Wallet. This move allows users to store their vehicle keys on an iPhone, moving beyond the limitations of the proprietary VW Mobile Key app. The feature also includes the ability to share digital keys with friends or family members to facilitate vehicle use.

To utilize this service, owners must have a compatible vehicle from the ID. series, such as the ID. 7, ID. Polo, or ID. 3 Neo, along with ID vehicle software version 6.0.1. Additionally, users require a Volkswagen ID account, completed identity verification, an active VW Connect contract, and a compatible iPhone. Future support for Google Wallet is expected.
