Volkswagen launches ID. Cross electric SUV in Europe
Volkswagen has opened orders for the ID. Cross, a compact electric SUV positioned as an affordable alternative to the T‑Cross. The model is built on the new MEB+ platform and will be offered with two battery sizes – a 37 kWh pack delivering about 316 km (WLTP) of range and a 52 kWh pack delivering up to 427 km. Prices start at roughly €28,000 (about US$32,000) for the base version; higher‑trim variants with the larger battery are priced from €36,500. The vehicle measures 4.15 m in length, 1.79 m wide and 1.58 m high, with a 2.60 m wheelbase, providing a 475‑liter boot plus a 22‑liter front trunk (frunk). Standard equipment includes a 10.25‑inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9‑inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, one‑pedal driving and optional driver‑assist features such as traffic‑light recognition. Production is slated for the end of 2026 with deliveries expected in early 2027, targeting European markets where competition from low‑priced Chinese EVs is intensifying.
