Volkswagen leads Brazilian car sales as Tera SUV prepares 2027 updates

In the Brazilian automotive market, consolidated data through September 18, 2026, shows the Volkswagen Polo leading the passenger car category with 6,446 units sold, despite a 0.6% decline from August. The BYD Dolphin Mini follows in second place with 5,799 units, marking a 12.9% increase. Other top performers include the Fiat Argo, the Hyundai HB20, and the Volkswagen Tera. In the light commercial vehicle segment, the Fiat Strada maintains a strong lead with 9,435 units sold.

Regarding product updates, Volkswagen is preparing significant mechanical changes for the 2027 lineup of the Volkswagen Tera, a compact SUV produced in Brazil. The upcoming models will feature the 200 TSI engine and a new eight-speed automatic transmission for the Comfort and High versions. This replaces the previous 170 TSI engine and six-speed gearbox. The new 1.0 turbo three-cylinder engine is expected to deliver up to 128 CV with ethanol and 200 Nm of torque.
