Volkswagen Mexico faces possible Puebla strike as workers demand 17% wage rise

The Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers at Volkswagen (SITIAVW) has prepared logistics for a potential strike at the Puebla plant if a new collective bargaining agreement is not reached. The union has set a deadline of 18 August 2026, after which roughly 7,000 unionised workers could halt production, demanding a 17% total wage increase (13% base pay, 4% benefits) and contractual changes.

Volkswagen Mexico has also agreed to recognise a union representing its administrative staff, pledging no retaliation and promising to negotiate the sector’s first collective contract. Administrative workers are pressing for equitable vacation scheduling, parity in salary increases, overtime pay, protection against forced layoffs and harassment, and a formal grievance process.
