Volkswagen Motorsport builds 1,000‑hp Golf for 75th anniversary in South Africa

Volkswagen Motorsport South Africa unveiled a specially built version of the eighth‑generation Golf that produces more than 1,000 horsepower. The powertrain is based on the five‑cylinder 2.5‑litre engine from the Audi RS3, extensively re‑engineered with forged internal components, a larger turbocharger, carbon‑fiber intake and a front‑bumper exhaust system. The car also features a widened track, a massive rear wing, all‑wheel‑drive and AP Racing brakes, all designed for extreme mountain‑climb racing.

The project commemorates Volkswagen’s 75th anniversary in South Africa and is not homologated for road use. It made its debut on a South African mountain‑climb circuit with driver Jonathan Mogotsi at the wheel, showcasing how the Golf platform can be pushed beyond normal regulations.

Volkswagen has not released full technical specifications, but the vehicle demonstrates the brand’s engineering capabilities when normal street‑car constraints are removed.
