Volkswagen names Latin America chief Fernando Badia as global head of light commercial vehicles
Fernando Badia, the Argentine executive who led Volkswagen’s Sales and Marketing operations across Latin America for seven years, has been appointed to head the global Light Commercial Vehicles division from the company’s German headquarters. During his tenure he guided a portfolio overhaul that included retiring the iconic Gol hatchback and expanding the SUV line‑up, while promoting locally‑developed models such as the Brazil‑designed Tukan pickup, positioned between the Saveiro and Amarok.
Badia said the phase‑out of the Gol required “about two years of planning” to rebuild the brand’s icon, and highlighted the Tukan as a symbol of regional engineering maturity. The move comes as Brazil remains pivotal for Volkswagen’s production capacity and vehicle‑specific engineering for emerging markets, and the executive will now apply his regional experience to the worldwide light‑commercial segment.
