Volkswagen unveils ID. California Cruise camper and ID. Up city car
Volkswagen is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with two significant new models. The company has unveiled the ID. California Cruise, an all-electric camper van based on the ID. Buzz. Showcased at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, the vehicle features camping equipment including a 2.03-meter bed, folding chairs, and a table. It includes a specialized ‘California mode’ for managing interior lighting and power, and can act as a mobile power source of up to 2000 watts for external appliances. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2027.
Additionally, Volkswagen is preparing to launch an affordable entry-level electric city car, likely named the ID. Up. Expected to debut in 2027 with a target price of approximately 20,000 euros, the model will be produced at the Palmela plant in Portugal. The ID. Up will utilize the new software-defined vehicle architecture developed through the Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies joint venture, aiming to simplify electronic systems and enhance over-the-air updates. The vehicle is expected to be roughly 3.88 meters long and feature an LFP battery with a range of approximately 250 to 400 kilometers.
