Volkswagen prepares new Tiguan R performance SUV for launch
Spy photos released by AutoMagazine show a white Volkswagen Tiguan R prototype with a redesigned front bumper, larger air intakes, a specific body kit and quad exhaust tips, signalling a more aggressive look for the upcoming performance SUV. The test mule also carries Audi Sport wheels, a roll‑cage and other R‑division trim elements, though the interior remains largely unchanged.
The model is expected to use a 2.0‑litre TSI engine borrowed from the Golf R, delivering around 245 kW (333 hp) and paired with a 48 V mild‑hybrid system, a seven‑speed DSG and 4Motion all‑wheel drive. Volkswagen plans to unveil the Tiguan R after the T‑Roc R, likely in 2027, with Australia highlighted as a key market for the R‑performance line.
