Volkswagen Puebla and FNC implement production and workforce adjustments

The Volkswagen plant in Puebla, Mexico, has reported a reduction in vehicle production and workforce adjustments. Following the cancellation of a shift in the Jetta-Tiguan segment, monthly assembly dropped by 23 percent in September, with total units produced falling to 27,475 compared to 35,634 in August. This adjustment resulted in the dismissal of 611 unionized workers and 175 voluntary retirements. Additionally, the president of Canacintra Puebla noted that approximately 1,000 technicians from supplier companies also lost their jobs due to the closure.

In Uruguay, Fábricas Nacionales de Cerveza (FNC) is negotiating a pre-agreement with its labor union following the closure of its Minas plant. The company is considering a 14 million dollar investment to concentrate beer production in Montevideo. The negotiations aim to address the situation of 59 affected workers, with options including transfers to Montevideo, retirement, or early retirement schemes. FNC also plans to resume operations at Cympay in Paysandú starting January 1, 2027.
