Volkswagen issues multiple vehicle recalls for ID. 4 and Cupra models
Volkswagen is managing several distinct vehicle recalls involving safety and fire risks. In the United States, the manufacturer has recalled 22,524 ID. 4 compact crossovers produced between January 2023 and February 2025. The recall, monitored by the NHTSA, addresses a technical issue where certain high-voltage batteries from SK Battery America may overheat and cause thermal propagation if charged beyond an 80 percent state of charge. As an interim measure, Volkswagen plans to deploy an over-the-air software update to limit charging capacity to 80 percent.
Separately, the Volkswagen Group and its subsidiary Cupra are recalling over 11,000 vehicles due to improperly secured seatbelts. The recall affects the new VW ID. Polo, where the passenger seatbelt may not be correctly attached to the B-pillar anchor point. Additionally, Cupra Terramar and Raval models are included due to faulty lower attachment points for front seatbelts. These issues, monitored by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), could reduce the effectiveness of the belts during an accident. No injuries or property damage have been reported in connection with these specific seatbelt defects.
