Volkswagen and Cupra vehicle recalls

Overview

Volkswagen and its subsidiary Cupra have initiated multiple vehicle recalls addressing safety and fire risks. In the United States, the manufacturer recalled 22,524 ID. 4 compact crossovers due to concerns that high-voltage batteries from SK Battery America might overheat and cause thermal propagation if charged beyond an 80 percent state of charge. As an interim solution, Volkswagen planned to deploy an over-the-air software update to limit charging capacity.

Separately, the Volkswagen Group and Cupra issued a recall for over 11,000 vehicles due to improperly secured seatbelts. This includes 1,109 Volkswagen ID. Polo models where the passenger seatbelt may not be correctly attached to the B-pillar anchor point, and 10,151 Cupra Terramar and Raval models with faulty lower attachment points for front seatbelts. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) reported no injuries or property damage related to the seatbelt defects.
