Volkswagen seeks Indian partnership with JSW Group for EV production

Volkswagen is in advanced negotiations with the Indian industrial group JSW Group to bolster its electric vehicle production in India. The potential partnership aims to secure capital for localizing production and developing a dedicated platform for the Indian market, known as the India Main Platform.

Reports suggest the deal may involve Volkswagen selling its 51 percent stake in its Indian subsidiary. A non-binding memorandum of understanding could be signed as early as October, following high-level management meetings in Mumbai. The new platform is expected to serve various electric SUV models under the Volkswagen and Skoda brands, utilizing technology derived from existing solutions used in China.
