Volkswagen to launch ID. Tiguan electric SUV by 2027

Volkswagen is implementing a new naming strategy for its electric vehicle lineup, transitioning from numerical designations to established brand names. A central part of this shift is the upcoming launch of the ID. Tiguan, which is scheduled for a world premiere in early October 2026 and a market rollout in early 2027.

The ID. Tiguan is set to replace the ID. 4 and ID. 5 models. This move aims to simplify the product range and leverage the strong brand recognition of the Tiguan name, which has seen over 8.3 million units produced to date. The new electric SUV will be offered alongside the existing Tiguan models powered by combustion engines and hybrid drivetrains.

Other recent developments in Volkswagen’s electric portfolio include the ID. 3 Neo, which features updated design and battery technology, and the ID. 3 GTI concept, a high-performance rear-wheel-drive model aimed for a 2027 release. Additionally, the company is testing efficiency-focused prototypes, such as the Mission Efficiency project, which achieved significant range through improved aerodynamics and lightweight materials.
