Volkswagen unveils ID. 3 GTI electric performance hatchback

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. 3 GTI, marking the 50th anniversary of the GTI brand and introducing the first rear-wheel-drive model in the lineage. This all-electric performance hatchback is based on the updated ID. 3 Neo platform and is expected to enter the market in the first quarter of 2027.

The vehicle features a rear-mounted electric motor producing 240 kW (approximately 326 hp) and 545 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h. A 79 kWh battery provides an estimated WLTP range of up to 601 km, with DC fast charging capable of reaching 10% to 80% capacity in roughly 29 minutes.

To maintain the GTI identity, the car includes a dedicated GTI mode activated via a steering wheel button, which adjusts power delivery, steering, and suspension. It also features adaptive DCC sports suspension, launch control, and a simulated combustion engine sound. Design elements include 20-inch Wörthersee alloy wheels, IQ. Light LED matrix headlights, and a signature red stripe, alongside a sport-focused interior with Superclark pattern seats.
