Volkswagen unveils electric ID. California Cruise camper van

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. California Cruise, the first all-electric version of its camper van lineup, at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. The announcement marks a significant step in the brand's transition to electric mobility for recreational vehicles.

To address weight constraints that often push electric camper vans over the three-ton limit—which requires a heavy goods vehicle license in several European countries—Volkswagen is exploring modular solutions. In collaboration with the company Stuff Bubble, the brand showcased a concept for inflatable, lightweight furniture for the California Beach. This modular equipment is designed to be fully removable, preserving the vehicle's daily utility and payload capacity.

Additionally, Volkswagen celebrated a milestone with the production of its 250,000th California model, which rolled out of the Hanover plant in July.
