Volkswagen unveils high‑tech e‑bikes with automotive safety features

Volkswagen has partnered with German e‑bike specialist n+ Bikes to launch two premium electric‑assist bicycles. The models incorporate car‑level safety equipment, including a rear‑view camera, radar‑based blind‑spot detection, and a “Smart View” display that shows rear traffic without the rider turning his head. Integrated LED strips act as daytime running lights, turn orange when signalling a lane change and flash red when braking. Optional accessories comprise a Bluetooth‑connected smart helmet that can send an emergency text after a crash, and smart glasses that overlay navigation and safety alerts in the rider’s field of view. Both bikes reach a top speed of 25 km/h and promise a range of about 160 km per charge. Prices start at $3,999 for the sport model and $4,349 for the crossover version, with the helmet and glasses priced at $399 and $499 respectively. Production is slated for late 2026.
