Overview

A follow-up briefing on 2 August 2026 detailed the launch of two premium e-bike models – a sport version priced from $3,999 and a crossover from $4,349 – both limited to 25 km/h and offering about 160 km of range. The bikes retain the rear-view camera, radar blind-spot detection and a “Smart View” display, while integrated LED strips serve as daytime running lights, turn orange for lane changes and flash red when braking. Optional accessories remain the $399 smart helmet and $499 smart glasses. Production is slated for late 2026. On 12 August 2026, Volkswagen announced the Smart eBike will debut at the IFA Berlin technology show. The bike features a radar and camera unit integrated into the rear mudguard that monitors traffic up to 70 meters behind the rider. In ‘Auto Mode’, the handlebar display automatically switches to the camera feed when the radar detects an approaching vehicle.
