Volkswagen unveils new Tukan and Amarok pickup strategies

Volkswagen is expanding its pickup truck lineup in South America with the introduction of two new models: the compact Tukan and the next-generation Amarok, both expected to arrive around 2027.

The Tukan is a compact pickup built on the MQB platform, sharing technical components with the T-Cross. It will be produced in São José dos Pinhais, Brazil, and offered in two configurations: the work-oriented 'Robust' single-cab and the lifestyle-focused 'Extreme' double-cab. It is designed to compete with vehicles like the Fiat Strada and Chevrolet Montana.

The new Amarok will be a midsize pickup manufactured at the General Pacheco plant in Argentina. Unlike the current global version that shares a platform with the Ford Ranger, this South American model will utilize a platform developed in collaboration with SAIC, potentially sharing hardware with the Maxus Interstellar X. The upcoming Amarok is expected to feature electrified powertrains, with reports suggesting a plug-in hybrid version could produce over 464 horsepower.
