Volkswagen rebrands electric SUV lineup with new ID. Tiguan

Volkswagen is undergoing a strategic rebranding of its electric vehicle lineup, moving away from its numerical ID system toward established model names. A key development is the upcoming successor to the ID. 4 and ID. 5, which is expected to be renamed the ID. Tiguan.

Recent sightings and video footage of camouflaged prototypes suggest the new ID. Tiguan will feature a more traditional, boxy SUV silhouette compared to the rounded design of the current ID. 4. Design changes include the return of conventional pop-out door handles and a more upright stance to better align with its combustion-powered counterpart.

Internally, Volkswagen is addressing customer feedback by reintroducing physical buttons for climate control and other essential functions. The new model is expected to utilize the updated MEB+ platform, which aims to provide improved driving range and faster charging speeds.

Additionally, Volkswagen is preparing the ID. Up, an affordable electric city car expected to launch around 2028 with a target price below €20,000. This model will likely use a simplified version of the MEB platform to compete with entry-level electric vehicles.
