Volkswagen wage dispute sparks economic concerns in Puebla

The Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE) of Puebla has expressed concern following the rejection of a 10.04% global wage increase proposal by the SITIAVW union at the Volkswagen plant. Business leaders warned that the dispute could jeopardize the state's competitiveness, potentially driving away suppliers and deterring new investments.

The CCE noted that the automotive industry is facing significant global pressures, including technological shifts, supply chain reconfigurations, competition from Chinese brands, and U.S. tariffs. They urged the union to make decisions with a long-term vision to maintain the viability of local operations.

Beyond the immediate wage dispute, there are broader concerns regarding the future of the Puebla plant. As Volkswagen implements global cost-cutting and production adjustments, the facility faces competition from other plants for new models and technological investments. Analysts suggest that a prolonged conflict could impact the plant's scale and production priority within the company's global strategy.
