Volánbusz corruption case: Court rules on suspect detentions
The Budapest Central District Court has issued a ruling regarding the ongoing corruption investigation involving Volánbusz Zrt. The court decided to extend the detention of suspect Sz. N. for an additional three months. The court noted that Sz. N. allegedly played a central role in the suspected crimes and cited risks of flight, concealment, and the potential to influence evidence due to an extensive network of connections.
In the case of suspect J. D., the court terminated the detention and instead ordered house arrest limited to a specific property, accompanied by the use of a tracking device. The court determined that the risk of influencing evidence no longer justified detention for J. D., noting a more isolated role in the alleged corruption chain.
The National Asset Recovery and Asset Protection Office had initially requested the extension of detention for both individuals, citing risks of flight and the potential to hinder the investigation. The judicial proceedings are still in the early stages, as authorities continue to work toward identifying other potential individuals involved in the case.
