Volos: 82-year-old man faces charges of sexual abuse of granddaughter

An 82-year-old man is facing trial at the Volos Misdemeanor Court on charges of domestic sexual abuse of a minor. The case came to light after his 17-year-old granddaughter informed her mother that the grandfather had engaged in non-consensual acts when she was younger.

The revelation caused significant family conflict. The girl's father reportedly refused to believe the allegations, leading to a confrontation with his wife. Following a police report, the father was issued restrictive orders prohibiting him from approaching the family home or contacting his wife and children. However, he was subsequently brought before the court for violating these terms after appearing in the family courtyard.

During court proceedings, the man claimed he was only present to deliver medication to his ailing mother, who lives in the same building. His wife contested this, stating he told her he was simply tired and had nowhere else to sleep. The case has been postponed to allow the defendant to prepare his legal defense, and a child psychologist is expected to examine the teenager.
