Volos court convicts cleaning lady for stealing from employer

A 53-year-old cleaning lady has been convicted by the Volos Misdemeanor Court for stealing money from her employer’s office. The woman, who had worked for the family since 2010, was caught on security footage opening a drawer and taking cash on multiple occasions.

The employer, a 45-year-old businessman, testified that he had noticed significant financial losses at his home over the past five years, totaling approximately 21,000 euros. These missing funds had previously caused severe tension and arguments within his marriage, as he initially suspected his wife of spending the money. To prevent further loss, he moved his cash to his office and installed surveillance cameras, which eventually captured the defendant.

While the defendant admitted to stealing approximately 200 euros from the office, she denied responsibility for the larger sums missing from the family home. The court sentenced her to 14 months in prison, a sentence converted to a daily fine of 10 euros, along with a 1,000 euro fine. The sentence is suspended with the right to appeal.
