Volos authorities address two domestic violence cases
Authorities in Volos are handling two separate domestic incidents involving elderly family members.
In the first case, an elderly man was arrested after allegedly attacking his wife during an argument. The victim reported that he grabbed her by the jaw and pushed her onto a bed, subsequently threatening her with a wooden stick. During court proceedings, the man appeared disoriented and unable to communicate effectively with the prosecutor, claiming he did not know why he was in court. It was noted that he suffers from serious psychiatric issues and memory problems following several strokes, and had not taken his prescribed medication. The court has ordered his involuntary hospitalization at the Psychiatric Clinic of Volos Hospital and postponed the trial until September 2, 2026, pending medical certification.
In a second case, the Prosecutor of First Instance in Volos has ordered a preliminary investigation into an 82-year-old man accused by his granddaughter of slapping her when she was a child. This investigation is part of a broader family dispute involving the teenager's father, who was previously arrested and placed under restrictive conditions for threats and physical violence. The family has requested criminal mediation to resolve the ongoing legal issues.
