Volos school complex to receive €1.2 million energy upgrade
The Region of Thessaly has approved a project to fund the energy upgrade of a school complex in the Municipality of Volos. The initiative, which includes four elementary schools and two kindergartens, has a total budget of €1,203,107.02 and is funded through the ‘Thessaly 2021-2027’ program and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The 1,780 square meter facility, originally built in 1990, currently holds a low energy efficiency rating of Z. The planned interventions aim to upgrade the complex to the highest energy class, A+. The scope of work includes thermal insulation, new window frames, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, as well as the replacement of old water distribution networks and lighting with LED technology.
Additionally, the project will integrate renewable energy sources and a central Building Management System (BMS) with energy meters for continuous monitoring. Thessaly Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas stated that the project will provide a modern, healthy, and thermally comfortable environment for students and educators while significantly reducing operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
