Volotea establishes new base at Ancona International Airport in Italy

Spanish low‑cost carrier Volotea announced the opening of its eighth Italian operational base – the 22nd base in its European network – at Ancona International Airport. The base will become operational in December 2026 and will host a permanently stationed Airbus A320.

The launch will generate about 30 direct jobs and at least 170 indirect positions. Since commencing service to Ancona in 2012, Volotea has carried more than 1.2 million passengers, recording a 95 % load factor in the first half of 2026. For 2026 the airline is selling over 150 000 seats on six routes to three countries: domestic flights to Catania, Olbia and Palermo (the latter year‑round), plus international services to Paris Orly, Barcelona and Madrid.

Volotea’s founder and CEO Carlos Muñoz said opening a new base represents a long‑term investment in the region and will strengthen the Marche’s role as a connected European destination. The airline and the airport are collaborating on a data‑driven analysis to identify further routes that meet business and leisure demand, with additional connections expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
