Wildfires ravage Balkan regions including Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia

Large-scale wildfires are currently affecting multiple regions across the Balkans, causing significant environmental damage and requiring extensive emergency responses.

In the Dinaric Alps region, a massive fire near Bosansko Grahovo has burned over 15,000 hectares. The blaze is being fought by ground crews and aerial support, including helicopters from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canadair aircraft from Croatia. Difficult terrain, high temperatures, and strong winds continue to hinder containment efforts.

In Serbia, firefighting operations are active at several locations. The Deliblatska Peščara region is facing severe conditions, with Russian Ilyushin aircraft assisting in the efforts. Local populations in areas like Trujino have been evacuated. While some fires near Kladovo and Fruška Gora have been extinguished, the situation on Mount Stolovi remains critical.

In Croatia, political discussions have emerged regarding the potential connection between recent fires in Dalmatia and ongoing investigations into toxic waste in Lika, though official causes for the fires have not yet been determined.
