Volvo adds Apple Music to over 2 million cars via OTA update
Volvo is deploying an over‑the‑air software upgrade that integrates Apple Music directly into the infotainment systems of more than 2 million vehicles worldwide. The update covers all Volvo models from the 2020 model year onward, including the EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40 and EC40. Drivers can stream Apple’s catalogue of over 100 million tracks without using Apple CarPlay or a smartphone connection.
To promote the rollout, Volvo offers new Apple Music users three months of free access and returning subscribers two months free, with the offer valid until July 6 2027. Selected premium electric models – the EX60, EX90 and ES90 equipped with the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system – will also support Dolby Atmos spatial audio. The newly launched EX60 will ship with Apple Music pre‑installed when deliveries begin later this year.
The move underscores the growing trend of treating cars as software platforms, allowing new features to be added remotely rather than through dealership visits.
