Volvo and Lasta project advance electric heavy-duty transport
Volvo Lastvagnar has announced the launch of new electric heavy-duty trucks, including the Volvo FH Electric and FH Aero Electric, designed for heavy long-distance transport. These models are optimized for the Nordic climate and are approved for gross combination weights of up to 80 tons. With a total weight of 64 tons, the vehicles can achieve a range of up to 450 kilometers on a single charge. The rollout is expected to begin in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Switzerland starting in early 2027.
In a separate initiative in Sweden, the Lasta project, driven by Ecoloop, is expanding access to electric trucks and mobile charging infrastructure in the Stockholm region. Previously limited to specific large-scale projects, the initiative now allows contractors and transporters to rent electric trucks for moving earth and rock materials on the open market. The project, which runs from 2025 to 2028, involves a collaboration between various industry partners and academic institutions to develop scalable, cost-effective solutions for electrified heavy transport.
