Volvo and MAN electric trucks extend range for long‑distance freight

German manufacturer MAN has introduced a 12‑ton eTGL model for urban distribution with up to 310 km of daily range and a 160 kWh battery, as well as the larger eTGX capable of 830 km on a single charge. Fast‑charging technology (up to 750 kW) can raise the eTGX’s battery from 20 % to 80 % in roughly 27 minutes, aligning charging time with mandatory driver rest periods.

Swedish‑Belgian Volvo Trucks is preparing the FH Aero Electric, a heavy‑duty truck targeting roughly 700 km of range thanks to an additional 100 kWh battery capacity. Orders opened in June with series production slated for September at plants in Sweden and Belgium. The vehicles have undergone testing in extreme northern climates, hot southern conditions and real‑world customer trials to verify performance across diverse routes. Both companies see the longer range and rapid charging as key steps to broaden electric freight beyond short‑haul city deliveries toward long‑distance operations traditionally dominated by diesel trucks.
