Volvo Cars has announced a significant software update for its EX60, EX90, and ES90 electric vehicle models available in Europe, the United States, and Canada. The update introduces four new safety alerts designed to improve driver awareness: warnings regarding animals on the road, the presence of vulnerable road users such as cyclists or pedestrians near highways, roadwork zones, and real-time accident alerts derived from data from over one million connected Volvo vehicles and traffic control centers.

Asa Haglund, head of the Volvo Cars Security Centre, stated that these innovations are a step toward the company’s goal of reducing collisions to zero. The safety data can also be shared with other vehicle brands through the European Data for Road Safety ecosystem.

In addition to safety features, the update provides entertainment and utility enhancements. Owners of the EX90 and ES90 will gain Spatial Audio compatibility with Apple CarPlay, utilizing Dolby Atmos technology through the 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Furthermore, the smaller EX30 model will receive an update enabling V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality.
