Volvo Buses secures record 150-sleeper bus order from Vijayanand Travels

Volvo Buses has secured a record-breaking order for 150 Volvo 9600 sleeper buses from the Indian company Vijayanand Travels. This represents the largest single order Volvo Buses has ever received from a private bus operator in India.

The new vehicles feature a two-tier design with 40 sleeping berths and 8.5 cubic meters of luggage space. Approximately half of the fleet will be equipped with onboard toilets to support long-distance travel. The buses are powered by an 8-liter D8K engine producing 350 horsepower and utilize Volvo’s I-Shift automated transmission.

Vijayanand Travels intends to use the fleet to expand its network across southern, western, and central India, including service on Asia’s longest bus route between Bangalore and Jodhpur. The production of these buses will take place at the VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) plant in Hoskote, a joint venture between Volvo and Eicher.

Shiva Sankeshwar, CEO of Vijayanand Travels, stated that the investment strengthens their fleet and expands operations into new states, reflecting continued confidence in Volvo’s technology and safety solutions.
