Volvo Cars announces 13 new models by 2030

Volvo Cars has announced its most ambitious product expansion in its 99-year history, planning to launch 13 new models by 2030. The strategy shifts away from a uniform global lineup toward a regionalized approach to meet diverse consumer preferences and navigate trade tariffs.

Seven new models will be developed for Western markets, including Europe and the United States, utilizing the company’s SPA2 and SPA3 architectures. These models will focus on a mix of fully electric vehicles and third-generation plug-in hybrids. Notably, Volvo plans to reintroduce physical controls in Western models due to consumer feedback regarding touchscreens. The XC60 and XC90 SUVs are receiving significant updates, including larger 41.2 kWh batteries that substantially increase electric range, with the XC60 reaching up to 200 km.

Six models will be developed specifically for the Chinese market through closer collaboration with Geely, leveraging shared platforms and components to reduce costs. This regionalization aims to increase component commonality to 30 percent and improve long-term operating margins to over 8 percent. The new lineup will also explore new segments, potentially including a return to sedans and station wagons.
