Volvo EM90 Luxury Van Sells Only 100 Units in First Half of 2026

Volvo Cars promoted its EM90 electric luxury MPV for the Chinese market as a "living room on wheels" aimed at affluent buyers. The six‑seat vehicle is equipped with a 116 kWh battery, offers up to 738 km of range, and is powered by a 268 hp motor that accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Launched in November 2023, the EM90 has sold just 100 units in the first half of 2026, making it the biggest model flop in Volvo’s recent history.

The van shares its technical platform with the Zeekr 009, a model from Volvo’s Chinese parent company Geely, and relies on badge‑engineering changes such as a new grille, headlights and taillights. Chinese buyers quickly recognized the underlying Geely basis and rejected the re‑badged vehicle, leading to the poor sales performance.
