Volvo ES90 flagship crossover debuts with high-performance electric powertrain

Volvo has introduced the ES90, a new flagship crossover designed to blend the elegance of a sedan, the utility of a five-door hatchback, and the interior space of an SUV. Built on the SPA2 platform and utilizing a next-generation electric vehicle architecture, the ES90 is a software-defined vehicle developed under the ‘Superset Tech Stack’.

The high-end Ultra Twin Motor Performance variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 500kW (680PS) and 870Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. It is equipped with an 800V architecture, a 106kWh battery pack, and dual-chamber air suspension combined with a ‘Four-C’ electronic damping system to manage ride quality and handling.

In the Japanese market, where the model was introduced in July 2026, consumer demand has leaned heavily toward premium specifications. While the entry-level single-motor model saw no orders initially, 70% of total orders were for the top-tier Ultra Twin Motor Performance trim, which is priced at 12.29 million yen.
