Volvo EX30 receives software update adding V2L power capabilities
Volvo Cars has begun rolling out a free over-the-air (OTA) software update for the EX30 electric vehicle, introducing Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. This feature allows the car to act as a mobile power source, enabling users to power external devices such as tools, camping equipment, or kitchen appliances by connecting a specific adapter to the external charging port.
The V2L system provides up to 3 kW of power at 16 amps. To preserve driving range, the power supply automatically shuts off if the vehicle's battery level drops below 20%. The update is being deployed globally to both new and existing EX30 owners over the coming weeks.
Additionally, the update introduces Plug & Charge functionality in select European markets for model year 2026 EX30 vehicles and newer. This feature automates the public charging process at compatible stations, removing the need for mobile apps or RFID cards. The software update also includes an enhanced user interface with a redesigned settings menu and a customizable contextual bar.
