Volvo introduces vehicle-to-vehicle communication for safety

Volvo is introducing a connected safety system via software updates for the EX60, EX90, and ES90 models. This technology allows vehicles to communicate with one another to warn drivers of potential hazards, aiming to provide more reaction time during poor visibility, bad weather, or on winding roads.

The update introduces four specific types of alerts: detection of large animals near the road, warnings regarding pedestrians and cyclists, notifications about roadworks, and alerts about accidents ahead. In the event of an accident, information can be shared between connected Volvo vehicles or through traffic management centers.

Through the European Road Safety Data system, this communication is not limited to Volvo models; information can be shared with other vehicle brands and national traffic management authorities. Currently, over one million Volvo vehicles utilize connected safety technology to report issues such as slippery roads or emergency braking.
