Volvo rolls out Plug‑&‑Charge for EX90 electric SUV in the United States

Volvo has introduced its Plug & Charge feature for the EX90 in the U.S., allowing the vehicle to automatically authenticate with compatible charging stations and bill the driver without using an app, card or QR code. The functionality will also be equipped on the upcoming EX60 when that model reaches customers.

The rollout works only with specific U.S. charging networks that Volvo has partnered with. In other markets, such as India, the feature is not yet available because local charging operators lack a unified standard and Volvo has not secured the necessary agreements or hardware adaptations.

Industry analysts note that even with Plug & Charge, actual charging speeds can fall short of the vehicles’ quoted maximum rates. Grid capacity, shared charger cabinets and dynamic load management at stations often reduce the power delivered to each car, especially when multiple vehicles charge simultaneously.
